Friedrich Gerstäcker letter to Bayard Taylor, 1847 June 26.

Gerstäcker writes to Taylor, 26 June 1847, reintroducing himself and reporting that he looks forward to reading Taylor's recent Travelling journal, and including a copy of his own recent novel about Arkansas, which he asks Taylor to read and comment upon honestly. He laments that he has forgotten much of the English he learned while travelling, and writes that he hopes to visit the East Indies and Australia in Spring 1849.

Friedrich Gerstäcker was a German author and traveler. Restless as a young man, he traveled across America for six years before returning home as a minor celebrity, his mother having published his travel diaries. He continued to write and travel, basing many of his novels in foreign lands, which contributed to their popularity in Germany.
